Tell us about your business!
As Moonlight and Moss, I create vintage inspired custom wedding dresses for Texas brides. My company is fairly new and I am hoping to grow it enough to open up a small wedding dress shop in San Marcos, TX.
What led you to wedding dress design?
I have always had a great love for dresses, and after working at a bridal shop in college I knew that helping brides with their special day was the thing that I wanted to pursue.
What keeps you passionate about weddings?
I absolutely love collaborating with brides and bringing their dream wedding dress to life. The time leading up to a wedding is so exciting for a bride and her family that I love being around that energy.
How long have you been in the wedding dress business?
I have been working around the wedding dress industry for the last 6 years, and making wedding dresses for the last 3 years.
Where do you find inspiration?
I tend to find inspiration in the women around me. I feel like my family and friends have such brilliant personalities and each is so unique that their style and personality inspire me. I also find a lot of inspiration in textiles, there are laces and beaded fabrics that as soon as I see or touch them I know exactly want I want to create with them.
What should couples know before looking for a dress?
That you don’t have to be afraid of putting some of your personality and style into a dress! If you feel like the dress is a reflection of you and you feel comfortable in it I think it will show. I have heard so many times brides talk about how they plan their wedding around what people expect from them, but I don’t think you should worry about anything other than what you like and enjoy!
What questions should couples be asking that they don’t know to ask?
I think a lot of women do not even know that having a custom gown made is an option. When it comes to gown shopping there are a lot of options but sometimes there are certain elements that a bride is looking for that they can’t find in a single dress. Having a gown made is the perfect solution because you can take all of those ideas you have from Pinterest and magazines and together we can make a gown tailored to you and your personality.
What sets you apart in your industry?
I create a beautiful product that is made using fine silks and French laces and is affordably priced. Each gown is designed specifically for each bride and her measurements, and handmade by me.
Outside of dress design, tell us about yourself!
I just moved to San Marcos last summer and I could not be more excited to become a part of this amazing community! I just moved here with my boyfriend and we have had a blast exploring the area with our two tree-climbing dogs.
What is your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?
Just know that everything will all fall into place the day of! Try not to stress too much over the details because if there is something missing the day of no one will notice. Everyone is there to have fun and celebrate your love, and that’s all that matters!
What was the most memorable wedding you ever worked, and why?
I have had the chance to dress two of my cousin’s for their weddings and it has been such a gift to be able to provide such an important part of the biggest day of their life.
